Reducing balance. Interest each month is calculated on the opening balance.
| Month | EMI | Interest | Principal | Closing balance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Total | Rs 0.00 |
† Final instalment adjusted for rounding so the schedule totals the total payment and the closing balance is Rs 0.00.
Totals are the sums of the rounded monthly rows. The final instalment is adjusted so the schedule totals the total payment and the closing balance is Rs 0.00.
Formula: EMI = P × R × (1+R)^N / ((1+R)^N − 1), where P is the loan amount, R is the monthly rate, and N is the number of months. If the rate is 0, EMI = P ÷ N.
For example, a loan of Rs 1,000,000.00 at 18% per year for 24 months gives a monthly EMI of Rs 49,924.10. This example uses fixed example inputs; enter your own figures above to calculate your loan.
With the reducing-balance formula: EMI = P × R × (1+R)^N / ((1+R)^N − 1), where P is the loan amount, R is the monthly rate (annual rate divided by 100 and by 12), and N is the number of months. If the rate is 0, EMI is the loan amount divided by the number of months.
A loan where interest each month is calculated on the remaining balance, so the interest portion falls and the principal portion rises over the tenure. This calculator uses reducing balance only; there is no flat-rate mode.
The EMI is the loan amount divided by the number of months, total interest is zero, and the schedule still shows each month, with the final instalment adjusted for rounding.
Yes. The final instalment is adjusted so the schedule adds up to the total payment and the closing balance is zero. When the final instalment differs from the headline EMI, it is marked in the schedule.
